Newborn sessions are so amazing because they signify a time of new beginnings, inspiration, and hope. Well, to me at least! So when there are two babies to photograph, there’s even more fun to be had. This summer I had the chance to photograph Jessica and Greg in Tribeca, NYC and in addition to their newborn twins, Josephine and Frances, they also had their sweet rambunctious toddler, Beatrice.
My favorite newborn poses with twins are the simplest ones. Both parents snuggled together holding their babies on the couch or on a bed. To get a variety of moments, have each parent take turns holding the newborns or rotate which parent holds which baby. Detailed shots of tiny toes and tiny fingers can be taken in each scenario. If there is a sibling involved like there was with this session, I like to have them lay on the bed or the ground for a sibling photo.
To document newborn twins together, they can be swaddled and laid side-by-side on a bed or in their crib. The swaddle can also be removed if you want more detailed features.
For truly candid moments, I like to incorporate the families’ favorite activities. For example, reading, listening to music, playing with toys, and even nursing/feeding. These activities help families be in the moment and allow you to document their milestone memories.
